Ways you can help

You can show caring for animals every day in your home, your school and your community. Do one thing every day to make a difference!

Caring at Home

  • Take great care of your pets. Make sure they have food, clean water, clean living areas and lots of love.
  • Be kind to animals outside and around your home. Respect wild animals by leaving them alone - this includes our smallest wild friends, like bees and ants. Enjoy watching them or taking pictures, but never bully them or hurt them.
  • If you see a wild animal that needs help, call your local rescue (or have an adult call them). If it's a non-dangerous small creature, like an insect upside down or trapped, help it out. If it can sting or bite, ask an adult to help.
  • If there are stray cats or dogs in your neighborhood, ask neighbors (with an adult) if they have a lost animal or call your local shelter to get them help.
  • If you have pets, make sure they are spayed or neutered. Controlling animal overpopulation helps us better care for all animals.

Caring at School

  • Be a role model for care! Share your love of animals with others.
  • If you see anyone being mean to or hurting an animal, say something to them and get help from an adult.
  • If you have a classroom animal, be a leader to make sure it is happy and well taken care of every day.
  • Share ways your friends can get involved to care for animals and invite them to join you.
  • Organize a donation drive with your teacher or principal.

Caring in Your Community

  • There are many good people and organizations who care about animals. Find out who they are! Look up animal organizations in your community to see how you can help.
  • If you are too young to volunteer, find out what is on their 'wish list'- that's a list most animal shelters and animal rescue organizations have showing what they need to care for the animals. You and your family can help, and share the list with others.
  • 'Like' and follow these organizations on social media and share them with others. This can help animals get adopted and help fill the wish lists.
  • See if your family can foster or adopt a pet. If you can't adopt more pets, fostering is a great way to make a difference or see if your family can sponsor a shelter pet.
  • If you see an animal in need, work with an adult to get them help.
  • Be loud and proud about caring for all creatures! Some people haven't had a pet or experienced the love and joy of an animal. They may not understand that all creatures need love and care, just like we do. Share your experience with them.
  • If your community could use another organization to help animals, talk to friends and adults and organize one!

Caring in the World

  • Look beyond your community to organizations that help across your country and even internationally. "Like' and follow them to stay informed and find ways that you can help.
  • Learn about wild creatures and the environment in your region to understand how you can be a protector for wildlife and care for our planet.
  • Take care of the natural environment- don't litter and be sure to recycle.
  • Share what you learn with others, especially your own family and friends. It's a great way for them to hear what is important to you and to spread care and kindness in your daily life.
